What’s the Smartest Way to Secure Venture Capital?

The Kauffman Founders School is now offering a free video series on winning venture capital for your growing company.

In “Financing Your Venture: Venture Capital,” Jeff Bussgang, general partner at Flybridge Capital Partners and a senior lecturer at Harvard Business School, talks about the most effective ways to locate venture capitalists, introduce yourself to them and, finally, negotiate funding.

What does Bussgang cover in the videos?

He encourages company founders to carefully research venture capital firms to make sure that they’ll be a good match for the startup—and that they’ll stick with your company during tough times.

Startups should avoid approaching a V.C. firm out of the blue. Instead, they should ask someone else to introduce them to the firm.

Startups shouldn’t dance around the risks facing their companies. When meeting with potential investors, offer a plan for reducing the risk.

The seven-part series can be found here.

It’s the latest offering from Kauffman Founders School, which tries to address skills that aren’t commonly taught through other programs. Past presenters have include Foundry Group’s Brad Feld, who covered startup boards; tech entrepreneur Steve Blank, who spoke about Lean development; and Anita Newton of Adknowledge, who led a series on entrepreneurial marketing.
