Tannin Wine Bar & Kitchen Lands on OpenTable’s Top 100 List

Tannin Wine Bar & Kitchen in Kansas City has received a national honor worthy of a toast: It’s the only local restaurant to make it onto OpenTable’s latest directory of the top 100 wine lists.

OpenTable, an online dining reservation website, compiled its coast-to-coast ranking of the “2014 Best Wine List Restaurants in America” from more than 5 million reviews by verified OpenTable diners at more than 15,000 restaurants. The top 100 restaurants came from 28 states, including California with the most wine-and-dine locations.

“This award is important because it is decided by our guests, and guests who dine at OpenTable restaurants around the country,” said Barry Tunnell, Tannin’s general manager. “While critical acclaim is nice, at the end of the day it’s our regular guests who give us the opportunity to keep serving the wines that we love to serve. So having their validation is a great honor.”

To receive the OpenTable wine list honor, a restaurant had to offer the “finest selections to complement every dish,” including the contemporary American fare served at Tannin Wine Bar & Kitchen at 1526 Walnut St. in the Crossroads Arts District.

This is the third consecutive year that Tannin Wine Bar & Kitchen has made the list. It was founded in 2011. Tannin’s general manager is Barry Tunnell, and Brian Aaron is the executive chef. The bar also offers a series of club memberships for wine enthusiasts.

Other wine-wise restaurants in Missouri and Kansas that made the OpenTable list:

  • Balaban’s, Chesterfield, Mo. (American)
  • Copia Restaurant and Wine Garden, St. Louis (American)
  • Elaia, St. Louis (modern European)
  • Robust, Webster Groves, Mo. (tapas/small plates)
  • Wine Dive, Wichita, Kan. (American)
