Startup Expert Brad Feld Shares Advice in New Kauffman Series

Brad Feld—a nationally recognized thought leader on startups—is the latest expert to share his advice through the Kauffman Founders School’s free online video series.

Feld will provide guidance on forming and running boards for startups. His eight-part series, the appropriately named “Startup Boards,” will be released via the Founders School website over the next several weeks.

The videos will give tips on the best time to form a board, how to compensate its members and how to recruit diverse board members who bring skills and insights that will help a young company succeed. Feld’s philosophy is that founders should pick board members as carefully as they do senior management.

The series will also outline best practices for running meetings and collaborating with a board during a major transition, such as an IPO or company sale.

If anybody is qualified to talk about board formation, it’s Feld, an early-stage investor since 1987. He’s a managing partner at Foundry Group, a venture capital firm based in Boulder, Colo. Fitbit, Zynga and Makerbot Industries are just a few of the firms that Foundry has worked with. Feld also co-founded Techstars, one of the nation’s best-known accelerator programs.

Feld’s video series is just the latest offering from the Kauffman Founders School, which also has material on lean startups, pitching, marketing, finance and other critical topics for new businesses.
