Small Business Saturday Returns to KC This Weekend

Small Business Saturday encourages people to shop at small businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. And Kansas City area merchants are planning to make it a special day.

According to KCSourceLink, Small Business Saturday events and offerings will include:

  • Waldo’s Holly Jolly Shopping Crawl // From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., more than 30 small businesses in Kansas City’s Waldo neighborhood—85th Street to Gregory Boulevard along Wornall Road, and along Gregory from Wornall to Oak Street—will offer discounts, giveaways and holiday deals.
  • The Kansas City Metro Area Cash Mob // Join the “mob” from 11 a.m. to noon at Urban Provisions General Store, 2616 Guinotte Ave. Participants should plan to show up with $10 to $20 in cash. Cash Mobs are intended to drive customers to small retailers rather than big box retailers.
  • Micro pop-ups or “store within a store” kiosks // These feature products made in Kansas City and will be located at the Greener Life Market, 227 S.W. Douglas St., Lee’s Summit; HMS Beagle, 180 English Landing Drive, Parkville; Olive Tree, 4937 W. 119th St., Overland Park; Velo+, 13440 Santa Fe Trail Drive, Lenexa; and Ugly Glass Company, 1400 W. 12th St., Kansas City.

Those not wanting to wait until Saturday to demonstrate their holiday support for small businesses can get a head start on Plaid Friday. The locally organized Plaid Friday asks folks who “shop small” on Black Friday to signify their support by wearing plaid. The Crestwood Shops at 55th Street between Brookside Boulevard and Oak Street will be the Plaid Friday Hub.
