Rx Savings Solutions has won a silver in this year’s Edison Awards, an awards program for innovations in products and services.
The Overland Park company has developed a platform that allows customers to find the best possible price for their medications. It has quickly won over some major clients, including the State of Kansas Employee Health Plan and the BH Media Group.
Rx Savings Solutions was nominated in the Edison Awards’ “consumer experience” category, one of 12 divisions. The winners were announced during a gala on April 23 in New York.
“Being recognized as an Edison Awards finalist is not only a great honor for our company, but also affirmation we’re on the right course to delivering a better, more affordable solution for healthcare to consumers,” said Michael Rea, the founder of Rx Savings Solutions.
Rea was working as a pharmacist when he got the idea for Rx Savings Solutions a few years ago. One of his customers was facing a dire problem.
“She said, ‘Michael, which of my eight medications should I skip this month?’” Rea recalled. “And I said, ‘Why do you want to do that?’ And she said, ‘Well, I can’t pay my rent and pay for all my drugs. I can only pay for six, so which two are least important?’”
Rea put in hours of research to help the customer find other ways to get the medicine at a lower cost—and he realized that other people might need similar help.
