Rhythm Engineering Wins Contract for KC Streetcar Job

Rhythm Engineering‘s technology is going to be part of the new downtown streetcar line in Kansas City, Mo.

Rhythm has developed a system that controls and synchronizes traffic signals based on the number and location of cars on the road.

The Lenexa company will put together a system to manage 21 signals along the streetcar’s route and help fight congestion once the streetcars starts rolling. Rhythm Engineering’s solution has been found to reduce travel times by up to 50 percent and cut the number of accidents by up to 30 percent.

“We are honored to have this opportunity to make a difference in our own home community,” said Reggie Chandra, Rhythm Engineering’s CEO. “Kansas City has proven that it is very serious in its intention to become a truly ‘smart’ city, and we are glad to be part of the initiative. Rhythm Engineering always has been proud to be called a Kansas City company as we make a difference to motorists in 31 states and 128 cities.”

Construction on the two-mile streetcar line is supposed to be finished later this year. The line should open to the public in early 2016. The streetcars will run between River Market and Crown Center-Union Station.
