QuikEyes Updates EHR System with Help from Tricension

Two new modules enhancing workplace efficiency have been added to QuikEyes, a cloud-based electronic health record system for eye care providers, headquartered in Overland Park.

The additions—made with the help of IT product developer Tricension, a 25 Under 25® winner—are the QuikEyes Optical Inventory Management Module and the QuikEyes Patient Communication Module (QuikCommunications).

The inventory management module lets eye care providers track their inventory (eyeglasses, contact lenses, etc.), cost of goods sold, product invoices, accounts receivable and practice management reporting.

QuikEyes CEO and optometrist Matt Lowenstein said in a release: “Adding these inventory and practice management capabilities will allow our current and future users to move their practice management processes away from paper and other generic product management systems, eliminating double entry and providing more efficiency in their practices.”

The patient communication module simplifies the scheduling of eye exams and appointment reminders by sending customized emails and texts directly from QuikEyes to patients.

“Having a fully embedded patient communication module was a unique goal of ours,” Lowenstein said. “Many EHR (electronic health record) systems use third-party communication software systems, which are expensive and require export of patient data from the EHR to the third party. We believe our embedded system will be more efficient and will definitely be less expensive for our users than using an outside communications vendor.”

Efficiency is “the key driver” of QuikEyes, said Tricension CEO Mike Lammers.

“The major trend is the providers trying to go paperless and adopt electronic medical records,” Lammers said. “In Dr. Lowenstein’s practice, he tries to replace all paperwork flow with software. When people have to carry around paper, it’s less efficient than just recording it and making people aware of it.”
