The Bunker Incubator Plans Expansion to Kansas City

Kansas City will soon be home to the Bunker, a business incubator with a mission to help military veterans build their own companies.

The Bunker will be based at the Enterprise Center of Johnson County. The new incubator will be a satellite of a program that opened earlier this year in Chicago, with a focus on technology-based startups.

The application process for Kansas City’s Bunker will start in April. Doors will open in July 2015.

Sean McIntosh, an Atchison native and military veteran who will head up the Bunker’s presence in Kansas City, said the Bunker will recruit from the region’s military bases. One of the program’s goals is to bring high-skilled veterans to the Kansas City area. It’s trying to create sustainable companies that could endure 20 years or longer.

The Bunker’s Kansas City location is part of a national expansion. Organizers hope to have eight locations across the country within the next two years, McIntosh said during a talk at the Kansas City Small Business Networking Event on Nov. 4.
