AIDS Walk KC Pays Tribute to Stephen Metzler

Local businessman Stephen Metzler passed away unexpectedly in late March, but his memory is far from being forgotten.

The annual AIDS Walk Kansas City is set for Saturday morning, and this year’s event will pay tribute to Metzler, who helped found the AIDS Service Foundation. The foundation raises money for organizations that provide care and support to people with HIV and AIDS. Last year, the walk generated more than $10 million in donations.

The city council has officially declared April 25 to be C. Stephen Metzler Day.

“The love that Steve had for our city was reflected back to all of us yesterday when the mayor and council so thoughtfully proclaimed this special day in Steve’s name,” said Michael Lintecum, the event director.

Registration for AIDS Walk Kansas City will start at 8 a.m., followed by a program at 9:15 a.m. and the walk itself at 10 a.m. For more information, visit this website.

Metzler was a winner of the 25 Under 25® Award through Metzler Brothers Insurance, his family’s business. He was also an active supporter of several community groups, including the National Association of Women Business Owners and the Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey, another organization that he co-founded.
