Donofrio named Citizen of the Year.
Vince Donofrio of Farmers Insurance Group-HelpPoint was named Citizen of the Year by the Olathe Chamber of Commerce during the organization’s 91st annual meeting on Jan. 27.
Donofrio is the vice president overseeing the company’s HelpPoint Claim Services division and helped start its operation in the 119th Street Technology Park. Farmers Insurance is the largest private employer in Olathe, and its employees have become regular volunteers in the community.
The Chamber also recognized Tyson Foods as its Corporate Citizen of the Year. The company’s Olathe location, which employs 250 people, is Tyson Food’s largest distribution center in the country. The Chamber also credited the company for its support of local charities and schools.
Anne Oswald, the co-owner of Sir Speedy Printing and Marketing Services, was named the Volunteer of the Year. Oswald, who previously worked for City Union Mission and Olathe Medical Center, serves on the Chamber’s board and has been a Chamber Ambassador. Sir Speedy also has provided in-kind services to the organization.
Garry Poore of Heritage Companies was given a special award, Volunteer of the Decade. He previously won Volunteer of the Year in 2005 and Ambassador of the Year in 2006. He has raised nearly $150,000 in new member revenue over the past decade.
Poore was one of three members who received the Bartlett-Olson Membership Achievement Award, an award given to members who recruited at least $4,000 in new member investments last year. Poore, along with Nancy Carr of Johnson County/K-State Research & Extension and Cathy Weaver of Miracles With Water, helped raise more than $153,000.
Sandy Chaney of Chaney Pest Management Inc. received the Ambassador of the Year Award. In her five years as a member, she has chaired the Liaison Committee for two years and served as an Ambassador for three years.
